Study on Safety of Pain Killers
An international study is about to be launched on the safety of pain killers. The Cleveland Clinic is going to lead a huge study that could serve to restore public confidence. Drugs like Vioxx, Bextra and Celebrex became popular because they were gentler on the stomach than older pain relievers, but those drugs have been at the center of a host of recent controversies.
Now, the new research will involve a mix of industry, academia and government. The study will test Celebrex and two types of drugs known as non-steroid, anti-inflammatory drugs. One is Ibuprofen and the other is Naproxen.
